This is going to be an unusually busy month. Two Thousand and Great will not go quietly into that good night. Thank God!
Tonight Jenn Cleary is hosting her monthly Songwriters Open Mic. Here's what Jenn has to say about this evening: Join us again this month for the Songwriter's Open Mic at the Outlook Hotel's Blues & Greens. We start out with an hour and half of songs by a variety of songwriters, and then end with our featured artist of the month. This month we have Scott Dale, a wonderful songwriter who I had on the September episode of my TV Show, "Behind The Song." That show can be viewed at: http://www.jenncleary.com/bts_stream_SctDale.html So, whether you are a singer-songwriter or musician who wants to come out and join the fun and appreciate original music, we'd love to see you there!
As long as we're on the subject of Jenn, she and Maddog are hosting a fund-raiser/jam on Wednesday, December 17. As I'm sure many of you know, Susan Moi, one of the "Lost Girls of the Sudan," was severely burned in an apartment fire here in Boulder on November 15. Please visit the benefit's Myspace page for more information. It sounds like a hopeful evening. http://www.myspace.com/boulderbenefitconcert Tomorrow night has a bunch of folks in an agitated tizzy. Myself included. The Joanna Connor Band is joining us for the first time, and her buzz is bigger than mine. Imagine that! I'm receiving in inordinate amount of emails saying, "See you Thursday!" I'm guessing EVERYONE is going. That noted, if you want sit up front, you better get there early. Here's what Grand County Blues Society's John Catt wrote in an email to Dan:
You ever seen Joanna Connor? You will be blown completely away…maybe in every direction. She can wail. She can play the hell out of the guitar! Good show. jcatt
I'll be at my receiving table early. I imagine many of my peeps will be there too.
Speaking of peeps, one of my main peeps, Gretchen Troop, of…wait, what the hell's the name of her band? Oh yeah, the Gretchen Troop Band (I'm so silly this time of year)! She's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! I loves me some Gretchen Troop Band, so everyone knows where I'll be this Friday. [ASIDE TO GRETCHEN: Yo, G, you up for dinner before the show? Blues & Greens, baby! Sweet Potato Fries is the new crack!] We always have so much fun with Gretchen and her boys, so get ready for the crazy! Next Tuesday is HUGE! Alvin Youngblood Hart! I've written about Alvin a few times here in the Blues Letter, but I can always locate a ton of praise when it comes to this genius. And spill a tanker of ink. He's Howlin' Wolf's distant relative, I'm convinced. There is simply no way those two aren't genetically related. His solo performances (this will by my fourth time) should start at 4:00 p.m. and go until 10:00. Six hours is the minimum! Everything about this larger-than-life, multi-talented artist is grand, and it looks like he will more than likely become my 21st fiancé. His nomination is solid, and I'm sure when Jill and I compute the data, he'll be in! So, next Tuesday, join us for the big engagement party!!! Jill's blinging it out! Wear sunglasses. I love Alvin Youngblood Hart. We even talked once!
Ok, here's where things get a little dicey. You see, two nights later, another of my fiancés, Shawn Kellerman, returns. Wow! Mark your calendars. Next week, we'll repost a review Chick wrote on this guitar monster with amazing hips (join us, you'll see). Again, mark your calendars. Hopefully, there won't be any overlapping between Shawn and Alvin. Awkward…

The Shuffle Tones are back on 12/18, and it's been too long for these cuties. Yeah, that's right, I said it! They're really, really cute, and eye candy is nice, particularly around the holidays. I'll be there early. With my camera. Oh, and ONCE AGAIN, if you haven't purchased their CD, Chicago Sessions, why not? We've been through this before people, and I don't like repeating myself unless it's a flattering anecdote about me.
The music year closes on December 27, also known as The Day The Heavens Blessed The Earth; or for short, Honey Bee's Birthday. Actually, there is music the following evening, but it's only Lionel and Mark, and no offence to them, but I'm more important. And cuter. With waaaaaaay more style. The Joyous Jill Watkins and I are actually sharing our Birthday Jubilee/Fund-raiser, as her birthday is a mere nine days after mine (although, she's a lot older than I am). My Beloved Delta Sonics will again, for the second consecutive year, grace the day with all that exceptional talent, and have even agreed to help host a bit of a jam. We don't know yet who will be joining the boys, but we'll let you know. And this is primarily a fund-raiser, with the proceeds spilt evenly between the CBS' "Blues in the Schools" program, and GCBS' "Blue Star Connection." I'll go into more detail about these two programs, but last year we raised approximately $700 for Blues Star Connection. We're going to try and match that this year, which means we need to raise $1400. That's a challenge without a cover. We'll rise to it.
I'm giving the MEMO section a break this week. Don't worry, it will be back next week. ~Honey Bee Sepeda - ADDENDUM - Note to Honey Bee…ahem…Jill Watkins Here…For the record, I am HAPPY to provide PLENTY of documentation that refutes your claim that I am in ANY way older than you!! And, your paper work would be wheeeeere? Lost in Italy somewhere? Your Birth Certificate burned in a fire, did it? Hmph!!! I will be in my trailer until these numbers have been compared and this issue has been resolved. Math is haaaaaaaaaaaaaaard!! ~Jill Watkins, The Younger

Where are my black lace stockings, Jill?
