With Honey on the sidelines, I will take a shot at letting you know about what’s coming up in the next few weeks (and take a quick look back at some of our going-ons). This Thursday Night at 7:30PM we were fortunate to book the Insomniacs. The Insomniacs were nominated as Best New Artists at the BMA and have their debut album out on Delta Groove Records. These guys are red hot and lay down some great Jump Blues. Bring your dancin’ shoes and check these guys out while our room can still get them. Friday will be a great night with Kort McCumber and McCumberland Gap. Kort and his sister, Beth are tremendous musicians. Great harmonies, violin and guitar pickin’ with a blue grass, country sound. Erica Brown is back on stage Saturday night. I don’t think I need to say any more about Erica: always fun, always packed and always dancing. Bring it on girl! A quick look forward at June: Gretchen Troop, Delta Sonics, Delores Scott, Kelly Richey, Mojomama, Rich Reno, Mojambus, Rex Peoples, Bob Margolin with Lionel and Al, Jason Ricci, Larry Garner and the long awaited return of Tempa! Whew, it’s going be a blast. We have a couple of covers for some of these bands. Last time Kelly played it was Friday. And we were turning people away for Jason’s last trip through (Sorry Mike)! This time we want to make sure our best customers (you) get in, so we are going to have advance ticket sales. Beginning June 1st tickets for the following shows will be available at our Front Desk. Stop in to pick them up, or call 303.443.3322 ext 0. Kelly Richey Friday June 13th $5 Bob Margolin, Lionel Young & Al Chesis
Wed June 25th $10 Jason Ricci & New Blood Thur June 26th $10 Larry Garner Fri June 27th $5 We realize that some of you may get tired with Margolin, and Jason back to back but we don’t want you to miss Larry Garner. John Catt from the Grand County Blues Society turned us on the Larry, and he is tremendous. Bring your ticket in from either the Margolin or Ricci show and your admission to Larry is free! We have been having four Blues Jams a month for some time now and they just keep getting bigger and better. Dan Treanor and Jack Hadley (frequently with David Booker sitting in) host our Tuesday Jams on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of every month. More on them next time. Every other Sunday, the second and fourth Sunday’s, the Heavy Cats, Mark Diamond, Lionel Young and Jay Forrest, host a Blues Jam that is not to be beat. These guys are some of the most talented musicians in the Front Range and beyond, as evidenced by Lionel’s recent first place finish at the International Blues Challenge. Usually with Russ Musilek sitting in, The Heavy Cats have an organic quality to the Blues they play. The songs start out with some meandering picking by Lionel on violin or guitar and grow into full tilt boogie blues. Although Jay doesn’t usually get down with “Whole Lot of Love” at the jams (you’ll have to come see Lionel when he is doing his own gig to get this) these guys can go anywhere. I often think that is must be hard to get up and play after the Heavy Cats, but the musicians show up every week and acquit themselves well. Check it out on a Sunday evening. It happens early 7:30-10PM so you can still get to work the next day. On the 1st, 3rd (and occasional 5th) Sundays of the month, Mark brings the Big Swing Trio in with Andy Weyl and Paul Romaine to host a Jazz Jam. Great performers always show up for the Jazz and mark keeps the room humming. See you soon, Dan King The Ambassador of Cool Dear Honey: Is there any chance that that pinched nerve in your neck has something to do with looking down to pull those stockings on? Hugs and kisses, Dan
