BluesNews                                                                       All The News That's Fit to Hear

Boulder’s Home of the Blues has some illustrious musical guests on their way to awe and astonish.  (Click here for all of August and September http://www.boulderoutlook.com/musiccalendar.html).

On Saturday, August 11th, the Boulder Outlook will host none other than the Ricky Earl Band! Earl is a true bluesman who hits the guitar and vocals with blazing passion and the recognizable influences of Albert King, B.B., Wilson Picket, Little Milton, and even a touch of Al Green.  Now based out of Denver, Colorado, The Ricky Earl Band has what it takes to satisfy the most hardcore blues purist while recruiting the novice with their scorching skills.  It promises to be the kind of evening for which a blues-loving audience lives.  http://www.rickyearlband.com/

The following Saturday, August 18th, the Outlook will be jammin’ with the old school blues of Mojambus.  Touring both nationally and internationally, these guys have earned their audiences’ respect with an uncompromising stage energy and presence, along with their unmistakable tributes to the likes of Muddy Waters, Little Walter, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.  Mark your calendars for Jammin’ with Mojambus.  You’ll be glad you did. http://www.mojambus.com/

On Monday, August 20, 2007, DON’T miss the special performance from the swiftly- rising blues star that is John Németh.  No need to believe us, but you might want to pay attention to what others have had to say, starting with one of the Outlook’s favorites, Steady Rollin’ Bob Margolin: "I remember telling friends up North in '80 that they should go see Stevie Ray Vaughan, but they weren't impressed because he wasn't famous yet. It will give me great pleasure to say, 'I told you so!' about John Németh. You'll see."  Bob Margolin, Blues Revue Magazine, Dec/Jan 2005

And then there’s this:  "Here's a guy that does it all, sings his butt off, wails on the harp, writes great songs and knows how to entertain the people!"  Ken Harris, Blues Bouquet.

And this:  "Either John Németh is one of the greatest vocalists in the world or this was the best performance of his life, or both."  Bob Horn, Washington Blues Society

And in conclusion, there’s this: "Definitely one of the best club shows that I've ever seen. John Németh is simply the Blues artist that I feel is most deserving of more recognition. Check the man and his band out whenever you might get the chance."
Don "T-Bone" Erickson, BluesWax, 2004.

Please join us in giving Steady Rollin’ the satisfaction of saying, “I told you so.” http://www.johnnemethblues.com/

Tuesday and Wednesday, August 28th and 29th, Alvin Youngblood Hart returns!  When AYH hits the stage, you can hear the delta crickets in the distance, feeling the sweat dripping down your back from the Mississippi humidity as you find yourself in a very distant time and place, when the blues was everywhere.  Called the Cosmic American Love Child of Howlin’ Wolf and Link Wray, AYH will change the way you listen to music.  And what you expect from a live performance.  Even Eric Clapton has been known to sing his praises.  Recipient of the 1997 W.C. Handy Award for Best New Artiest as well as two Living Blues Awards, Boulder and the Outlook are lucky indeed to have him for two nights.  http://www.mojomusic.com/alvin/main.htm

Wrapping up August is young prodigy, Max Allen.  A singer/songwriter/guitarist who has been performing professionally since the age of 16, he and his band deliver an energetic live performance with great guitar work and melodies, aligned with catchy and sophisticated lyrics, a surprise coming from such young performers. Allen and his band have had the pleasure of opening for many great acts, including but not limited to Kenny Wayne Shepherd. By all accounts, Max Allen is a rising star.  Join us on the 31st and be one who will be able to say “I knew him when…”   http://www.maxallenmusic.com

We would be thrilled if our membership would forward our “bluesletters” on to all their friends and lovers of live music.  Come in for a show, bring a couple of email addresses and/or friends to add to our list, and end the evening with satisfied ears and a fabulous new “bouldershomeoftheblues.com” t-shirt as a “thank you” for your support.  And PLEASE remember to tell your friends that Boulder once again has a blues club that is arguably booking the best of the blues from around the country.

Stay tuned for more bluesnews from the Outlook, and check out the calendar for all the upcoming gigs not highlighted above.  There are many, and anyone with a need for some blues can be satisfied at least a dozen times monthly at Boulder’s Home of the Blues.   Honey Sepeda, August 2007.
